We have a cat who wakes up every night at 3:00AM to be fed (and if not fed, begins to cry incessantly until someone gets out of bed to do so). This feeder has been a life saver - kitty quickly learned that it pops open about the time he gets hungry (and we get much more sleep!). That said, the ice pack in the bottom is pretty thin. We set the timer for 5 hours and are comfortable knowing it keeps the wet food cold enough to be safe for him, but I probably wouldn't go too much longer than that (for dry food, this would be a mute point).
