We like having a dedicated GPS because we prefer to use our phones as phones when we travel. Garmin is the name I always go to. So far it has done what we need. We keep getting the "accessory not supported" error when we plug it in, but it goes away with a single tap. I love how easy it is to attach and remove the windshield mount to both the windshield and the GPS unit itself. It's a suction cup mount, so all you have to do is press it against the windshield and flip the lever on the suction cup. Quite easy. The actual device has a recess on the back into which the bracket snaps into place. To remove it, simply pull the tab on the mount and it will release. This is a good portable device. Another nice feature of this version of the Garmin software is that you can see the name of the street you are currently driving on at the bottom of the navigation screen. It saved me a lot of headaches. Street names and driving directions are easy to see, and the freeway exit pop-up screen makes freeway driving a stress-free experience. It also tells you which lanes you should be in, which is also a lifesaver. One issue we've had with Garmin is that their maps aren't always up to date. On our most recent trip, we relied on Garmin and Google Maps to get us where we wanted to go because Garmin missed at least two key stretches of road that Google used to shave an hour off our trip. The product works very well, but don't forget to compare your routes with Google's if you go on a long journey.
