Great value buy

I've been with TomTom for several years I really like this Garmin. I've had it for a little over a month and put it on a 2000 mile ride and also left it in my car on my daily commute to test further. Yes, there are a few operational differences between it and TomTom, but mostly you just get used to the interface. When I tried to download map updates with my TomTom it took 3 to 4 hours or even longer, with Garmin nüvi 55LM it warned me it would take almost two hours and then about 20 minutes…

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

Garmin Nuvi 55LM GPA Navigator just received and tested for several days. Got this unit to replace an old Garmin unit that no longer turns on all the time. We immediately noticed that the display is much more responsive to touch than previous generations, making it much easier to navigate the various menus and find the destinations you want. The touch response is now almost on par with smartphone displays. Another improvement I noticed is that the GPS calculation time has been greatly reduced…

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Damaged

Quality navigator good for GPS, finders and accessories

Works well but some features are missing/carried over from my old Garmin. I use this for law enforcement purposes, so it's often used to show current location and not tell me where to go. My old Garmin could be turned off but was still connected and tracking the satellites. When disabled, this block will stop tracking satellites. It's fine as long as you don't turn it on and it should find a signal before showing where you are. It's a little uncomfortable when someone starts snaking through the

Not in GPS, Finder & Accessories

I bought this to replace an old Nuvi 205 that I loved but had lost (or someone had stolen). I updated it after opening the box and then took it to test. I've tested this at several different destinations I've traveled to before. The instructions that were given were not the quickest or most direct. I reset the settings to the most direct and fastest route and tried again. Same result. Then I took it with my brother who has an iPhone (I didn't have it at the time). We were in South Carolina…

Great product, not many Garmin maps

We like having a dedicated GPS because we prefer to use our phones as phones when we travel. Garmin is the name I always go to. So far it has done what we need. We keep getting the "accessory not supported" error when we plug it in, but it goes away with a single tap. I love how easy it is to attach and remove the windshield mount to both the windshield and the GPS unit itself. It's a suction cup mount, so all you have to do is press it against the windshield and flip the lever on the suction…

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • Update available

etc. My old TomTom finally gave up after 12 years. I've seen Garmin have 82% positive reviews while the latest TomTom only had 67% 4 or 5 stars. I rely on data rather than intuition, which is why I switched to Garmin. ho hmm 1) It took a long time to search for satellites and download after I downloaded maps etc. 2) The setup didn't allow as many settings as I would like: where information is placed on the screen; does it show speed limits; overspeed alarm; Release schedule.3) He often lost…

Pros
  • price
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was some functionality

Due to the nature of my job I need the best navigation I can get

I am a government military and purchased this GPS to use in my cruiser. I have a very large coverage area (2 full counties) and really rely on it to call me quickly and efficiently. Due to the nature of my work I need the best navigation I can get, people's lives literally depend on it. It's very easy to use and does a great job of finding even very rural roads in remote areas. The included suction cup mount works great and keeps the device attached to the windshield even when driving over…
