Review on Garmin Nuvi 55 LMGPS Navigator System with Spoken Turn-by-Turn Directions, Preloaded Maps, and Speed Limit Displays - 010-01198-01 by Girish Underwood

Revainrating 3 out of 5

2) The setup didn't allow for as many settings as I'd like: where the info is on the screen

etc. My old TomTom finally gave up after 12 years. I've seen Garmin have 82% positive reviews while the latest TomTom only had 67% 4 or 5 stars. I rely on data rather than intuition, which is why I switched to Garmin. ho hmm 1) It took a long time to search for satellites and download after I downloaded maps etc. 2) The setup didn't allow as many settings as I would like: where information is placed on the screen; does it show speed limits; overspeed alarm; Release schedule.3) He often lost GPS. Every 20 or 30 minutes 4) He couldn't tell I was off route and was on my way out until I was 300 feet off route 5) The algorithm for finding addresses was off by about half a block . twice. It signaled that I had arrived long before I got there. 6) The graphics I'm used to from TomTom showing the exit lanes were missing. 7) There was an image of the lane as the exit approached in the top left corner, but the display showed 4 arrows pointing up with the rightmost arrow highlighted. BUT the exit lane (rightmost arrow) was not pointing right toward the turn; he pointed straight ahead. The psychological effect here is that you'll pull into the right lane, but expect to go straight for a while, or maybe turn right a bit. Instead you have to turn right. It's illogical. I would prefer the right arrow curves to the right. It was a lot less functional than my old TomTom. I change Garman to TomTom. Keep for updates.

Pros
  • price
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was some functionality
