Review on Garmin Nuvi 55 LMGPS Navigator System with Spoken Turn-by-Turn Directions, Preloaded Maps, and Speed Limit Displays - 010-01198-01 by Eric Ramen

Garmin Nuvi 55LM GPA Navigator just received and tested for several days. Got this unit to replace an old Garmin unit that no longer turns on all the time. We immediately noticed that the display is much more responsive to touch than previous generations, making it much easier to navigate the various menus and find the destinations you want. The touch response is now almost on par with smartphone displays. Another improvement I noticed is that the GPS calculation time has been greatly reduced. The recalculation time after an incorrect rotation is of the order of a few seconds. I tried 5 or 6 destinations that I visit frequently and the GPS barely matched the route I was going to take. The speed at which you find your desired destinations has also been vastly improved with more choices. My guess is that Garmin must have revised its algorithm and updated its database. I need more road testing to give a five star rating, but so far the device has definitely met and even exceeded my expectations. I like the portrait view mode available with this device. If you are looking for an upgrade for a device that is several years old, this is definitely a good device to consider.
