I've been with TomTom for several years I really like this Garmin. I've had it for a little over a month and put it on a 2000 mile ride and also left it in my car on my daily commute to test further. Yes, there are a few operational differences between it and TomTom, but mostly you just get used to the interface. When I tried to download map updates with my TomTom it took 3 to 4 hours or even longer, with Garmin nüvi 55LM it warned me it would take almost two hours and then about 20 minutes. Yours may take longer if your internet is not that fast. All my travels so far have been in far west Utah, Idaho and Oregon and my son lives way out of town in Oregon and this device got me where I wanted to go with no issues and very efficiently. I had a little weird display error last night which I'll report to you, but I don't expect anything to be perfect 100% of the time. I won't spend a lot of time on the details because you can read a lot about others just to say I feel like money well spent and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. If anything changes I will update my review.
