I cook a lot and while table shakers are great, I don't prefer them to salt recipes while cooking. I used to put some salt on my hand from a container at the store and then pinch it from there. Not very efficient. This salt pig is the answer. I was reluctant to open up to the environment like that for fear of cooking oils etc. getting in. First I ordered a model with a lid. It was a mistake, both with the lid and the availability of salt. So I bit the bullet and bought this Emile Henry Salt Pig. I was very happy with her. It's still within range of the oven where I have it, but I've had no trouble getting anything in. The hole is wide enough that I can easily reach it even with little salt. If I need to move it to another part of my kitchen (like something I'm cooking elsewhere that needs salt) it's easy to handle, just pinch your upper lip, transfer, pour out the salt and put back in. Light. Big capacity. Attractive modern design. I had no problems with salt absorbing moisture and sticking together. The inside is left unglazed to absorb and prevent moisture. I suspect that the people who had the clumping problem either overstated it beyond the unglazed portion or simply used it in an extremely humid environment. I gave four stars instead of five because it's too expensive. Otherwise it's a great, functional piece.
