Just wanted to make a few suggestions that may not always work for all situations. But I strongly encourage all prospective or current guinea pig owners to watch the many videos online about setting up a C&C pen/pen for your piglets. Most pet stores won't tell you, but most stores sell VERY few cages big enough for 1, especially 2 or more guinea pigs to stay as healthy and happy as they should be. For those who know how to work with wood and plexiglass there are amazing things that can be built. In addition, specialty stores like IKEA sell products of various shapes, sizes, with plexiglass fronts that can be attached together to create a custom design, sized to fit special locations, even space-saving ideas for a limited space, buy safe stacking tiers , safe bride, ventilation space. Some of us cannot yet afford IKEA products. But we can afford to buy these 14" x 14" square mesh metal shelves. Often college students and teenagers use them as inexpensive shelves to store books etc. There is a special type of cardboard called chloroplast that can be used as a cage floor and many of us have switched to non-woven cage liners which you can find online or even buy can sew by yourself, it is much better for guinea pig paws when they are long. B. Cleaning/Shutdown, periodically. You can also build multiple levels if you don't make certain bridges too steep and provide built-in fall protection, even with attached cardboard, as protective walls. If you can't afford chloroplasts, you can make what we have by gluing cheap linoleum to wood. You can build a larger, healthier aviary by using a waterproof floor like this, zip ties, storage netting, inexpensive clothespins, and some fleece, and you can also use paper balls in small bowls, even cardboard ones. Often pigs like to go #2 in darker, more enclosed areas more often than anywhere else. Although it still happens, they can't always control it. It definitely makes cleaning the cage easier. But our boys especially like to just hide in the back corners to make their No. 2. These hammocks are great for hiding under and lying on. Sometimes we use cheap safety pins and just drape an old towel over one side of the enclosure where they can hide when they're shy. And we've found that when they add something new to their enclosures, like these hammocks, it can sometimes/often take them a while to decide whether they like it or not. Some pigs are curious and explore immediately. While others need more time or watch another pig enjoy something, they want to give it a try too. We have a hanging square, soft fleece lining with 2.3 exits. And everyone takes turns climbing into the hanging square with relish. If it gets very hot they might not use it so let's try hammocks. But sometimes they prefer to be warm just for that soft, secluded roost. We have collected SO MANY cheap, great ideas to help our pigs live happier, healthier lives from many other small animal owners on YouTube, maybe some of you. And we get great ideas from reviews like this one on Revain. Therefore, we do not intend disrespect. We just thought we could come up with some ideas that have been extremely helpful in improving the lives of our pigs. We hope they can be helpful to some of you. Good luck to you and your fluffy babies!
