Nice box with a few major flaws.

This Android TV box is a worthy option, although not without drawbacks. It's not my first device and I think I should be considered an Android enthusiast, but it's the best media box I've ever used. I'll try to explain why I like him and what he could do better, trying to be as thorough and precise as possible. handles 3D rendering (games) very well - 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage is enough for most applications - MicroSD slot for memory expansion. My 64 GB card works perfectly with it. The stock firmware seems smooth and a lot less buggy than some of the ones I've seen (see below). Minimal preinstalled software - no bloat. - While not a high-end brand, Beelink offers a decent amount of support as well as firmware updates, while smaller brands never reach a stable state. - This box is very compact and neither flashy nor bad looking. - HDMI cable included. - Includes the Google Play Store, literally thousands (millions?) of app choices. Adapted for Android). - Supports HDR, HEVC. - Rooted. If you don't know what that means, don't worry. (Not the same as "unlocked" or hacked, which are usually marketing terms unrelated to Android media boxes.) Cons: - A bit pricey. You get what you pay for, but a cheaper S905 or S905X-based set-top box will do for most people, especially if they primarily use Kodi. Very *WEAK* WiFi. My old boxes had no problem in the same spot, while this one could only reach 1/2 or 1/4 the maximum speed. Something special! - Surprisingly poor remote control - no playback control buttons (no play/pause, stop, fast forward, rewind). Keystrokes are often not registered. -No 4K Netflix - I believe only Android TV boxes are supported (Nvidia Shield, Xiaomi Mi Box, Nexus player, maybe some others.) -Kodi is not pre-installed. It's not difficult, but Kodi is the top choice for most people who buy Android consoles. Although Beelink's support is better than many brands, their website is not very good and the English language is poor. Bad forum setting but useful users. Other thoughts etc: - I haven't spent much time troubleshooting the wifi as a quick search turned up many similar complaints. Luckily I had an old Sysco router laying around so I put it in bridge mode, placed it behind the TV and hooked up a GT1 to it. Fixed (er, bypassed) Wi-Fi issue. I prefer the old SPMC interface over the current Kodi interface. You lose nothing by using SPMC instead - same addons etc - The stock launcher isn't the worst I've seen, but it's far from the best. I use Nova Launcher on most Android devices due to its customizability. There are at least a couple of custom/third party ROMs available for this box if you're inclined. I installed TWRP with a fairly complete version of Android TV (compared to stock Android, which is better suited to phones and tablets). Installation is not difficult. There is a lot of talk on the web about these boxes getting very hot due to the powerful SoC and the lack of a real heatsink in the unvented box. No problems here yet. Only 2 USB ports. Not critical, but there are 3 in many boxes. Only compatible with USB 2, no USB 3.0. There is no manual or even a decent quick start guide. For many of us this is not a problem, but some people are more easily scared or inexperienced. No video playback issues (so far), unlike my last box which was buggy as Help1, Rockchip based which stuttered all the time. .- I've only had it for a few days and I've encountered a few nasty things, but I'll leave it at that. I wasn't sure if I should give 3 stars out of 4 as the issues I encountered are not inconsiderable, but I was able to work around the poor wifi and cumbersome remote with a spare router and a Logitech Harmony remote. . These workarounds work, but are definitely not ideal. However, Logitech does not fully support the box. I understand that there are multiple versions of this box with two different Wi-Fi chipsets. I have no idea if others are still available (I think they're older?) or if they're better. I never got a single firmware update. If you're sure you want the S912 box then this is a good option, but if you mainly stream video it's probably worth considering the cheaper S905X box, including those available here. Not the best box but I'm picky and a bit demanding and will stick with it for a while. My other main option was Nvidia Shielded, which is excellent but almost triple the price.
