The wicks I received have a fiberglass core surrounded by a woven cotton sleeve with brass wires. The core is NOT made of plastic. See for yourself by setting a sample kernel on fire. It turns into a glass bead but doesn't burn like plastic. Fiberglass is an excellent and durable material for making a wick. These wicks have four advantages over Zippo wicks. First, it's a fiberglass core. Second, they are about an inch longer than the Zippo wick (see image). Third, they fit better in a Zippo liner than in a Zippo wick (see image). Fourth is the price. A Zippo wick is at least 17 times more expensive than a single wick. As an added bonus for those of us who care about the environment, these wicks come with minimal packaging. If you have trouble inserting these wicks, apply a very small drop of petroleum jelly to one end to hold the fibers together, insert the wick and trim the end. In this case, you won't lose more than a few millimeters. If you want to pay a fraction of the price of a well-known brand for a superior wick, buy this one
