At first I avoided this adapter mainly because of its price, but then decided on it because it was 50% cheaper. Background. I was looking for a way to provide Ethernet connectivity for my new Chromecast with Google TV (CCWGTV) and knew I needed a USB-C to Ethernet adapter with bandwidth. My price point is the official Google Ethernet/USB-C/Power Adapter, sadly stuck at 100Mbps in the 20th century. I wanted something with gigabit connectivity. Enter the Belkin adapter. Testing. The adapter arrived and I quickly tried it on my CCWGTV. I plugged it into the dongle, plugged in the cable from the dongle's power supply, and plugged in the ethernet cable. As the key powered up, it stopped at a screen that indicated a lack of power. darn. For the record, there are other adapters that work with the Google power adapter, so this is a black mark against the Belkin dongle. The Google power supply is 5V/1.5A (7.5W) and that didn't make it. Do not worry about it. I had a fast charger on hand that was rated for a very powerful 5V/3A (15W) so I figured it should be enough for twice the power. nope Serious? Now I was wondering if the adapter was not working properly. I took a Chromebook and connected everything. Success! Chromebook power supply is 45W(!), for reference. So I switched to my Note 9 with a 5V/2A (10W) charger. It worked, but my phone basically only charged briefly (8 hours from 90% to full?), meaning the Belkin adapter was probably drawing somewhere between 8 and 9 watts, or at least wasn't able to transfer enough power. (efficiency?). The bottom line for CCWGTV is that this adapter requires >15W, which would require using a laptop/Chromebook charger or investing in a very powerful charger for a small device (20W or more). In any case, I cannot recommend this adapter for CCWGTV, especially if other adapters work directly with a 7.5W power supply. This is probably fine for laptops/Chromebooks, but it will really put you off charging/charging things like tablets or cellphones when using OEM chargers. Definitely not worth the high price this device usually carries.
