They are made of plastic and are quite inexpensive. This works best for me as the pedals seem to hit the roots and wobble the most on a mountain bike trail. I have had many rides with them and they have held up very well. I've had one of the propeller teeth fall off and a small joint splinter, but the pedals are still rideable. I don't see any difference as there are many more bolts that need to be connected to my shoes to feel secure. I bought a backup in case something happens. My buddies ride them too and we all like the price, looks and decent durability. If you want to spend more money, go ahead. but it's a good choice.
