I liked the motor shield idea because it would make motor prototyping a lot easier - just plug in the wires and you're good to go it start What I didn't really think about was how uncomfortable the shield is. My mental image of a shield would be something you put on top of Pi like many shields and allow you to stack them inside each other and so on. Without additional expansion options. Also, I don't even know what pins to use - the board came with no documentation and nothing is readily available on the site. It's a little annoying that I have to take the extra step of waiting for a response from the seller, which I haven't done yet because I'm busy complaining about how little I like it. The problem is that the screen is on. The downside of the Pi is that you can't easily mount the Pi without long standoffs. Easy to use. I'd rather spend 10 minutes connecting directly to the driver/breakout board than emailing support and waiting for a response and hoping I get an appropriate response.
