Review on πŸ”’ Enhancing Home Security: Mail Boss 7506 Mail Manager Curbside Locking Mailbox for Maximum Protection by Larry Cho

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good lockable mailbox - probably the best in this price range.

Due to the increase in mail theft in my area, I've decided to start my lockable mailbox on something heavier (mostly people who just come and grab what they can get) and also harder to open. I also wanted to be able to get small packages this box covers very well without affecting fishing. After reading the reviews I found that Mail Manager is the box I ordered and installed last weekend. The box it replaces is an older version. Gibraltar MSK00000 Mailbox, available here at Revain and Mailbox stores for around $60. My box was older but looked the same. This mailbox was too easy to fish out by hand and of course with any tool that helps to get deeper into the box. It also proved very easy to open, which I found after installing my new box. It took me about three seconds to open it with a screwdriver and now that I know it would have taken about a second. Let's get to the mail manager. Overall I like the box, especially for the price. The funnel takes small packs and is designed in such a way that one must have very thin arms and hands to catch it by hand (if at all possible) and there is no angle for the grabbing tool to fish. My guess is that someone skilled at handling a sticky object hanging from a string could pull something out but would have no work to do, and if they tried that hard they'd probably just open the box instead. As for opening the drawer, although the lock and steel body work noticeably harder than the drawer it replaces (and other drawers in this price range), I don't think it will withstand a serious attempt to open it. . I did a little test with a screwdriver and the driver easily pries on the side or top of a locked door and the metal starts to bend quite easily. I didn't try to pry it out as I don't want to damage the box I just bought, but I'd be surprised if it survived a serious bump. If the lock were open (which is entirely possible) I think the door would sag enough to accommodate mail and then the door and/or drawer would need to be replaced. On the other hand, you would know that something was stolen from you, which is a lot better than just fishing out boxes and not knowing if/what was stolen. Advantages: - The crate is very easy to mount on an existing wooden crate. Post or handrail provided you have a suitable socket wrench. I used one of the Gator Grip universal sockets and it worked fine. It took less than 30 minutes from unboxing to full installation for one person installation. - The box is very safe from hand fishing and grabbing tools and probably difficult with other improvised tools. - Hopper accepts both small packages and mail. - Good size. Not too big but should hold a few days' mail for most families. Stronger lock and construction than other drawers in this price range. Cons: Made for thicker steel and tighter fit and finish tolerances, so it's not as easy to get a screwdriver or other tool to peek into the top or sides of the latch door. Of course, you need a strong lock that is also not easy to pick. And you'll have to pay at least a few hundred dollars more to get a box like this. Verdict: - As far as I can tell, Mail Manager is probably the best you can get in this price range. - Since Mail Boss does a great job with their ads to prevent mail theft and features guys hacking into competitors' mailboxes, I gave this product a four star rating instead of five. I don't think it offers the level of security that you expect, but for its price range I think it does the job well. good way to go. They use 1/4" steel (much thicker than any official gauge) and have fairly tight tolerances where the door edges meet the frame. You won't be able to open any of them, there's no way you can get a tool to get in with good leverage, and the metal won't bend at all. other methods?). I think a door over the inbox is a must to keep rain and critters out. For a mailbox with a door (instead of an open letter slot like the base models), the cheapest model (Fortress) on their website is $348 plus shipping. My local store lists the price as $445 plus tax. You may need a new post installation (with a solid concrete base) to hold a mailbox that weighs around 100 pounds, and having two people to install something this heavy is recommended. They are good at over $500 including postage and time and labor. In terms of money and manpower, it's a significant step up from the $100 Mail Manager range, but it gives you far more security than anything else I've researched at any price point.
