This book describes all types of knitting stitches: knit and purl, inline, lace, cable, slipped, etc. There were many patterns that I have not seen in any other collection of stitches. . This book is a dictionary of words and will be most useful for designers or more experienced knitters who want to play with different stitches and textures. (Note: NO instructions on how to make finished items such as sweaters, scarves, mittens, etc.) The author assumes that anyone using the book will already have some knowledge of knitting, so this book may not be useful for beginners (unless they want it). use it as inspiration)! The main disadvantage of this book is that which some of the other reviewers have mentioned: stitch patterns are listed (not spelled out!) in the table and use the author's own symbols rather than the standard table symbols used by most other authors. I've found that it's easiest to just remap the loops I want to use with the default symbols, rather than using their symbols for my book and going back to the default symbols in other books. (One of the other reviewers suggested keeping a copy of her symbol dictionary handy when knitting, but I found redrawing patterns less crazy!) To use this book, you need to become comfortable using the knitting charts. I thought the stitches were so beautiful that pulling them over was a minor annoyance. Instead of using your characters for your book and accessing standard characters in other books.
