Erica Wilson: excellent author

Unfortunately most of the illustrations in the book are black and white. But at the time of publication, this was the norm. Fortunately, this book is so skillfully written and illustrated that you will forgive the lack of color. Erica Wilson is one of the avant-garde craftswomen who inspired the resurgence of interest in embroidery in the 1960s. She graduated from the Royal School of Needlework with an experience few can match. This book is one of the best in the world: you will learn the history of embroidery, the first quote is from Mary, Queen of Scots in 16 threads. The author pays great attention to the details of where and how to start training the crew, from the choice of materials to design. Many patterns come with detailed instructions for reproduction. Then, on over 70 pages, she shows exactly how to make over 60 stitches and variations. The litmus test of the value of the cue dictionary, I believe, is the ingot's explanation. The author describes it very vividly in 6 steps while others show 2 or 3. This book is a valuable addition to any crafting library. from items in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collections.
