Unfortunately, my cat wasn't a big fan of this rug. In fact, he preferred to scratch the wall and carpet! I had to buy standard cardboard scratching posts to keep him off the wall and carpet as he didn't like the carpet. He tried the rug several times and subsequently avoided it. I think it's because it's hard but flexible like a carpet. So it doesn't give my cat enough stability to grab or hold while she scratches. Instead, he seems to prefer rigid and inflexible cardboard scrapers. I suspect that ultimately the usability of the products will come down to your cat's preferences.
