This is an aggressive sharpener, not a substitute for a sharpener

This is a decent diamond sharpener, the word 'sharpening' is heavily emphasized. The difference between a sharpening steel and a sharpening steel is that the sharpening steel only fixes a blade that is bent due to use, but does not scrape the metal; while a sharpening rod like this actually contains abrasives that remove metal to create a new edge. It's actually quite an aggressive sharpening rod. I guess the grit is between 600-800. I mainly use it to sharpen bird's beak knives or cheaper knives that are dull and don't sharpen. But I won't use it on my more expensive knives as it can easily ruin a knife's finish if the angle isn't carefully controlled.
