Still couldn't reach the edge.

Although my old steel still had many files on it, it must be worn out. In this case, 2 strokes on each side of the blade made it razor sharp. I'm considering buying another one as the diamond set has a fairly limited lifespan. EDIT: I went down from 5 stars to 1 star because of durability. Diamond coating on steel. Bought on 03/08/2019. As of April 23, 2019, she is completely smooth. I've only used it for final sharpening of an 8" chef's knife, maybe 4 times a week.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Almost OK

Great price for the best sharpener available

This thing literally makes knives insanely ridiculously sharp. I've tried stone for so long only to get 1/4 the edge and sharpness this kota can get. Received it today and Ice has used it on several combat knives, some kitchen knives and even a sword and all I have to say is WOW. Buy one, don't think twice, you won't be disappointed. Note: I wouldn't recommend this if you have a badly damaged or dull blade, it's a very high grit, it's more of a sharpener than a sharpener and you may need to use

Excellent product and good value for money.

Good length and weight for large chef's knives. A question about the product listed it as a 1000 grit diamond, which appears to be correct. Literally 3-4 strokes on each side of the blade will restore a good sharp edge. I tried my pocket knife first to make sure I was happy with the results before attacking the kitchen with it. Be careful of the angle at which you hold the blade. nice and flat. with light pressure. Very fast and excellent results to touch up your knives when needed. Be aware…

Amazing value! for knife sharpener

I lost my favorite knife sharpener that we used for many years (which I paid a lot for cooking), it is necessary to sharpen every knife we had . After trying a few local options, I found this Kota sharpener at Revain for a great price. It arrived before the expected delivery date and after trying it I'm not even looking for the old one anymore. . This sharpener quickly made a razor blade on every knife we have and I was able to cut the prep time significantly. Resharpening became a minor thing,

  • Not only useful for its intended purpose

This is an aggressive sharpener, not a substitute for a sharpener

This is a decent diamond sharpener, the word 'sharpening' is heavily emphasized. The difference between a sharpening steel and a sharpening steel is that the sharpening steel only fixes a blade that is bent due to use, but does not scrape the metal; while a sharpening rod like this actually contains abrasives that remove metal to create a new edge. It's actually quite an aggressive sharpening rod. I guess the grit is between 600-800. I mainly use it to sharpen bird's beak knives or cheaper…

Very good sharpener. Act!

Looks like a very good sharpening steel. Bought as a gift, not really used. I have another diamond whetstone and have made a career out of being a chef. I like oval surfaces versus round ones. The 12 inch length allows you to work with almost any blade length, a few strokes and a wipe of the blade and you're back in business. It is very light and therefore easy to handle. Inexperienced users are advised to place the tip on a non-slip surface perpendicular to the counter and run the blade…

Pros
  • Done
Cons
  • Expensive insurance

This steel removes metal and smoothes the blade, giving any knife a fearsome edge, a straight edge. I test my blades by running the edge across a folded napkin. I apply the same pressure to the knife as if I were slicing a tomato. The deeper the cut through the many layers, the sharper the blade. Normal for a knife coated with this steel are 10-12 layers (VERY SHARP!). Once you've set that edge, maintain a sharp edge by simply pulling the blade three times in each direction and back into the…

Left with a smile on his face

I've wanted a diamond sharpener for a long time. It seemed to have good reviews overall and was priced at $16. I've only had it 2 days so I don't know how long it will last. I have sharpened 43 knives with blades ranging from 1.5 to 13 inches in length. Stainless and carbon steel butcher knives, paring knives and a variety of knives of different sizes, I've even sharpened 5 ceramic knives that I slammed into the box after they had become dull years ago (ceramic blades took twice as long to…
