My mailbox was painted by an artist and he removed the little red flag that came with the aluminum box so as not to ruin the painting. It is very easy to use and seems to have high power magnets. They are placed behind the rubber/plastic so they don't ruin the paint/finish of your mailbox. I am very happy with this magnet and hope it will last a long time.
