I have a 5.2-channel surround system. I connected the speakers with a 16 gauge monster wire I've had for years and spliced some wires together to keep the rear speakers pretty far back. My receiver told me that one of my speakers was reading the wrong polarity. I checked my wiring which turned out to be fine and checked the speakers. There was still a polarity issue so I decided to change all the wiring to 14 gauge. After replacing 100 feet of wire the polarity issue was gone and overall my sound system has greatly improved. I should have done this a long time ago. High quality wiring!
