I have a 5.2-channel surround system. I connected the speakers with a 16 gauge monster wire I've had for years and spliced some wires together to keep the rear speakers pretty far back. My receiver told me that one of my speakers was reading the wrong polarity. I checked my wiring which turned out to be fine and checked the speakers. The 12 gauge Monoprice wire selection sent by Gmartglobal was made 3 years ago according to the wire spool label. The wire's coating was milky, and the wire inside didn't quite look like copper. The wire's coating was not shiny but hazy, and when the wire was bent it seemed to separate from the coating inside. This product initially appeared cheap. The wire is a bit stiff and more difficult to work with than the wire I like better. Because of this quality, I rated it 3/5 for easy to install. It sounds as good as any 16 gauge or larger speaker wire. The big problem is that it oxidizes heavily. Along the wire in the sheath, the metal cable rots before our eyes. I ordered 100 feet of cable and am confident I only received 50 feet. The product was marked 100 but I remember the spool was not completely full. I didn't think it would be necessary to measure all of this prior to installation, so I didn't. I'm kinda lucky because 50 feet was enough to get my job done.
