Review on πŸ” SVBONY SV503 Telescope 80ED F7 OTA: Enhanced Views & Astrophotography by John Sharma

Revainrating 5 out of 5

You get what you pay for. Except this time!

I've been wanting to get a portable APO refractor but didn't have the funds to spend over $800 on an ED doublet/triplet. I have everything from a 10" SCT to a C90, but I wanted something portable for easy viewing of terrestrial objects, but with a large enough field of view for astrophotography. I also have a Sky Watcher EvoStar 100 APO Doublet which I love but is too long to travel with. . I found this SVBONY for $400 and Revain had a coupon for it. I found what I have to lose with the free returns, right? Photos on the internet justify little. First, the build quality. It weighs just over 6 pounds and is built like a tank. Some people might consider the weight a downside, but sometimes the build quality adds to the weight. It has a 2-speed Crayford-style focuser that outperforms my EvoStar in almost every way. really slatted) but feels great. It also has graduations. The focuser rotates, allowing you to adjust the position of the focus knobs. This feature is incredible at this price. It's smooth as silk. The dew guard is retractable, another feature I would have liked to see in my EvoStar. The color on the OTA feels very durable and pleasing to the eye. Even the lens cap is made of durable aluminum. The mounting rings are good and strong, as are the cocking knobs, but you may need a longer dovetail as the scope feels unbalanced even with the rings at the very end of the focuser. The dew-proof extension helps somewhat, but not enough to help with heavy eyepieces or cameras. The scope reminds me of the Orion EON class in almost every way. I wonder if it was made in the same factory? Glass supposedly FPL-51. I've only had the opportunity to view Jupiter through the 20mm and 8.8mm EW eyepieces with the EvoStar 2" dielectric, but I didn't notice CA. I could see the fringes of 8.8mm clearly distinguish this. This is a solid unit. It doesn't include a diagonal scope, finder scope, finder scope mount, but it's only $400! SVBONY sells a finder scope mount for about $10 at Revain. Add a diagonal, . Case added and you still don't have enough budget for what you want Very happy with this purchase Will update when possible.
