Review on πŸ’» USBGear USB 3.0 4 Port Power Hub - High-Speed Metal Case for Enhanced Performance by Jason Arkin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sturdy and reliable hub

I installed this unit upside down under the monitor stand shelf so I could access the USB ports while I was working. It's well built and works great so far. It is very small and unobtrusive - there is no inscription or LED backlight on the front panel with USB connectors. As another reviewer noted, there are 4 screw holes for mounting, but screws are not included. I don't understand why so few other USB hubs can be mounted as it increases its utility when not laying flat on a horizontal surface. The only downside to an otherwise quality device is the power connection - the cord length is very short. , and the plug itself is bulky and clunky enough to pretty much guarantee it'll occupy more than one outlet. A six- or eight-foot cable is probably not overkill and will make the hub easier to use. The USB cable that came with my device is 3 feet long - you'll probably need a longer one. The LEDs are not annoyingly bright. The device supplies power to the ports even when the USB upstream port is switched off (ie when the computer is switched off). However, each port receives a maximum of 900mA, so high-current devices cannot be charged. The USB ports are spaced just under 1/4 inch apart. This isn't a problem with regular USB connections, but it can be a problem with non-cable devices such as B. oddly shaped flash drives, cause problems. Five stars for the build quality, reliability to date and the fact that it doesn't have any sharp turns or unnecessary frills. The money clearly went to development, not bearded hipster design consultants. It's a small, unobtrusive, all-metal box with four USB 3.0 ports that work reliably. That's all.

Pros
  • computer cable adapter
Cons
  • boring packaging
