You should not activate the 30-day service as part of adding a device to the app. The instructions state that the 30-day service begins after you request a device location. I don't consider a Bluetooth connection adding a device to a mobile app as a valid location request because it's within Bluetooth range and doesn't use a cellular network. If they start the 30-day service when doing anything with the device, they should make it clear that even confirming that the device is not a DOA starts the 30-day service period.
