Review on CDN DTP482 Digital Programmable Thermometer by Angel Brown

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Medium sized thermometer with good heat output

This thermometer comes with a good quality thermometer and cable. I use it with my gas grill to grill steaks and chops, usually top to bottom. If the probe is inserted deep enough into the meat, it will fairly accurately capture the internal temperature of the meat when the grill is closed. The probe and cable are hotter than any I know of. The alarm is a good idea, but I lost it - I have a loss at high frequencies and can't hear it. the probe is exposed. After inserting the probe 1/2 inch into a 1 inch thick steak and closing the lid, the meat's temperature will rise faster than normal. Opening the top will cause it to fall. I can prevent most of this by inserting the probe into the side of the meat, covering at least half of it. For thin cuts, I don't leave the probe in the meat while cooking. I open the lid to take the temperature. My previous sensor type sensor was not affected, hence the 4 star rating. It was a Walmart model and after a few years it went down the drain. A later, almost identical model from Walmart was worse than this CDN block. Overall this is a good solid block and even with the caveats above I would definitely recommend it for heavier cuts. Forget steaks or chops. You could also open the grate and use the instant manual reading.
