Received this product direct from Aqueon. While everything fits normally and cleans the water, the filter itself appears to be thicker. It's a matter of design, not quality. The entire filter is 1/8-1/4" thick. Given the cost per unit if they added more mechanical filter media or activated carbon or both. There is enough room in standard filters with this filter cartridge to fit more which is what I like feel like I got my money's worth Instead I'm considering using a foam filter block that can be washed and reused Greener and a lot cheaper.
