Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Park Tool HCW-11 Slotted Bottom Bracket Adjusting Cup Wrench: 16mm Precision Tool for Bike Maintenance by Victor Olsen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A necessary and great tool if you have a bike that uses the old style bottom bracket standards!

If you have an older model bike, or a bike that uses one of the cheaper 3-piece crankset and bottom bracket combinations, this tool will likely come in handy. I need this wrench/locking wrench for my wife's beach cruiser and my young son's mountain bike. This allows you to properly grip the adjustable cup and hold it in place along with the bottom bracket locking ring until all play is eliminated and the bottom bracket is perfectly snug without rubbing or loosening. (Although it's reversed on some models, the HCW-11 grabs the locking ring and the wrench for the adjustable cup instead.) There are other ways to install an adjustable cup, but none come close as just the right one have tools for the job; in this case HCW-11. This tool is made in America, I believe, from heat treated steel with a carbon content of about 0.75%, which is about 61 HRC, and laser cut. This means you can apply around 80Nm of torque to the wrench and it won't deform, which is very handy when working with old rusty parts. Not only does this tool fit snugly, it also allows you to apply more torque to the cup or snap ring. All of this adds up to five stars for me and is an essential key for any advanced home bike mechanic.
