Buy Park Tool buy once

Bike tools can work because every little thing you do seems to require a special tool, and while it was tempting to just pry with a screwdriver to mine To loosen the bottom bracket, I decided to buy this, I'm glad. This made cleaning and repacking my car a lot easier.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for seniors

This tool can take a beating

I used this to rebuild the bottom bracket on my entry level bike. The adjustable shell got stuck and I had to hit this tool 30-40 times with a hammer to make a full revolution of the adjustable shell until it finally broke. Despite heavy hitting, this tool has not bent/cracked. I think that makes this tool worth the price (and the smoothly rotating bottom bracket with no play).

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Can't remember

Again, the right tool for the job. Thank you ParkTool!

The right tool for adjusting old school cup and cone bottom brackets on old English bikes. This is their home shop tool. I would not recommend this for removing the fixed cup side. Instead, I would follow RJthebikeguy's method using a hex bolt, a nut, a stack of lock washers, a fender washer, and two large wrenches. He demonstrates how to use this setup on his YouTube channel.

Great but Optional Tool

This is a solid tool from a great vendor. Arrived five days early. So there are no complaints in this regard. However, if you're a little shocked that fixing a wobbly grip would require four different $16 disposable tools, I'm telling you, you probably don't need this one. The HCW-4's pin wrench works with countersunk knurled caps, while a regular adjustable wrench provides elevated turnkey fittings. At your discretion. Sometimes it's nice to have exactly the tool you need. But if you don'tโ€ฆ

Well-made tool for specific bike adjustments

Bicycles use several types of adjustable bottom bracket cups (bearing shells that rotate with the front sprocket). The bearing is adjusted by loosening the lock ring (using another specialty wrench) and then tightening or loosening the adjustable cup until the sprocket axle is not loose or loose but still spins freely (i.e. not too tight). or too loose). The cup is then held stationary (with this wrench) while the locking ring is re-tightened. If your bike uses an adjustable cup that requiresโ€ฆ

Know how everything is. This tool works.

The tool works great with a little trick (thanks RJtheBikeGuy!). However, with a tight, immobile shell, it tends to slip off. However, take a 3/8" bolt with 1/2" washers and slide the bolt with washers through the hole from the inside of the bracket so the bolt is sticking out. Then put 1" or 1 1/2" flat washers on the end of the bolt protruding from the fixed shell, grease some threads, insert the Park Tool HCW-11 into the slots in the fixed shell and pull tighten the screw . , now the toolโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

If you have an older model bike, or a bike that uses one of the cheaper 3-piece crankset and bottom bracket combinations, this tool will likely come in handy. I need this wrench/locking wrench for my wife's beach cruiser and my young son's mountain bike. This allows you to properly grip the adjustable cup and hold it in place along with the bottom bracket locking ring until all play is eliminated and the bottom bracket is perfectly snug without rubbing or loosening.
