We built a 'Katio' that attaches to the window for our two crazy kitties. This pet door and casement window works, but there are a few design flaws.1. The lower silver handles for increasing and decreasing the width prevented them from climbing in our window. The guide mentioned this as a problem and gave steps to fix it. It was a big pain to remove the handles. Essentially, you need to take apart the bottom half of the panel. The instructions for this part were difficult to understand and the screws were very difficult to come by. Once removed, there is (obviously) a small hole open to external elements. So we need to connect them somehow.2. The door to close the sash is not suitable due to the edge of the window. (See photos) This is very important to me because I wanted to be able to close the lid at night and when we are not at home. It is impossible to attach without opening the window, defeating the purpose of attachment. You need a perfectly flat window to use the door - no lip is used to open the window from the inside.3. They need more weather protection. A small roller included in the kit is enough to glue the top of the panel. But yesterday it was windy and I could feel it blowing from both sides of the slab and from below. Now it's not that big of a problem because it's warm, but in winter it blows cold air. Conclusion - we hold the door open. This is the best option we've seen for what we need. But to be honest the price was a bit disappointing. Not being able to use the lockable door is a big problem that we need to address. Installation is easy as long as you don't have to remove the bottom silver screws, but your window frame will need to be very small to fit flush without removing them. Our cats haven't quite figured it out yet, but I certainly will. The door is big enough for our Maine Coon to climb through unhindered. So it's fine, but it requires work and additional services to install.
