Tearing After Printing: 3D Printing Consumables

The finished product is durable and of high quality. However, after printing, which usually takes a night, the filament between the spool and the printhead invariably breaks. Small flaws hidden when winding on the spool, after straightening the thread, slowly increase and cause the strands to fail? This applies to both transparent (currently used) and black yarn, which has recently been used up and removed. If it breaks, it leaves a 1- to 6-inch fragment that needs to be discarded (unless I want to wait to manually feed new filament while the broken end goes through the extruder little by little). I respectfully note that a larger coil to coil diameter may alleviate the problem.
