Without instructions, beginners will have to look around to understand how to use this tool, including some of the other reviews posted here. There are many YouTube video tutorials that can help with this. I don't call for it; My spatula didn't come with any instructions either. But for an item that's not exactly "everyday" it would be nice! For those who know how to use it, it works and works well. I've been able to sharpen my set of knives much better than with an electric sharpener, and a good blade not only makes working in the kitchen easier, it's also safer. Happy with it.
