Ready to work with PFSense 4.5

I took the opportunity to add an additional interface to my 2 Gigabit Small Form Factor PC as my primary router with this USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. To work from home, I really needed to connect the company devices to a separate network. The two onboard NICs have already been used to connect to the ISP modem (port 1) and the main home switch (port 2). But my separate work subnet also needed internet access. So I searched Revain for a suitable gigabit network card that would use USB 3.0 and found this one. The small package contained a couple of quick start guides and a small driver software CD. However, PFSense is based on BSD Linux and my PC build has no moving parts, let alone a CD/DVD drive. However, since the chipset contained in this device was immediately recognized by PFSense, there was no need to install any drivers. I was able to add a new secondary home subnet/VLAN in minutes using this adapter. To be honest, if I had known that such a cheap device could solve my dilemma so easily, I would have tried it much sooner. An added benefit of having a separate VLAN for work and PFSense is that I also set up routing rules so I can access devices on my home network by IP address without having to worry about a VPN. There are no complaints. I will choose this adapter whenever I need an additional GigE NIC.
