Review on Universal Car Rack Kayak Carrier Set of 4 with Bow and Stern Lines from Malone Saddle Up Pro by Richard Jarvis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Perfect fit for my Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 XL

I was looking for something that can handle a large (13.5ft, 60#s) kayak on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I live in Old Town, Maine (Canoe City) and even the tour guide told me that traditional kayak mounts would not support the load of this boat. It would be best to simply tie the boat to the roof rack cross members, perhaps with roof rack washers. After reading a bit I decided to try these racks to hold the boat in place. I'm very happy with how well the blocks are set (usually on my flat bars) and the boat sits. They are soft and flex well to follow the shape of the boat. I did not use the straps that came with these racks. Instead I bought Summit Solution Gear Tie Down Straps with neoprene coated buckles. With Malone stays and Summit straps I ran 75 mph for 5 hours with no problems and did NOT use the bow and stern lines. The only downside I would say is that the "Malone" magazine on the shelves is just a sticker. I removed the shelves after using them (until next year) worried the decals would fade. Also, I'm not sure how well the plastic holds up to UV rays.
