Exactly what I paid for, probably worth spending a few bucks more for better quality leather. First, I'm assuming it was processed with unfiltered fish oil. .Not perfect. I mean, it smelled like "fish," and I don't mean "fishy" like the real estate investor in the Scooby-Doo episode, literally FISH. It smelled like Aquaman's shorts after a long workout, to say the least. But hey, I think the upside is that it caught your eye as soon as it was released (fresh fish oil can sometimes go unnoticed for a while, and I'd hate to gift someone a project and then leave it smelling like that). Some other companies use other oils or filtered fish oils that don't emit bad odors on the road. I will definitely mix the shell solution with a healthy amount of leather cleaner and some dish soap to get rid of the fish oil and breathe some life into the leather. And on that note, that skin definitely needed a good clam bath. in any case, he definitely wasn't ready for the job and soaked up a few drops of water like sand in the Mojave desert. I realize this is split and not full grain tool leather, but gosh, this stuff looked like cardboard and frayed like denim when I tried to cut it. Not that it's a problem, some hides require a lot of preparation before being cut/scored/etc. just to share with the crowd in case anyone is expecting instant leatherworking. Considering the cost of the leather cleaner and the extra time spent on the shroud I probably won't be ordering from here again in the future, although the price is tempting.
