Review on Park Tool HBT 1 Hydraulic Cutter by Bob Schultz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Worked well on a Shimano XT setup

I recently built a Ritchey hardtail with XT brakes. One brake was assembled and bled, the other with a hose on the caliper and fluid with a cap/plug on the other end of the hose. I ride with the front brake on the right side so for the pre-fitted assembly I had to switch sides and also cut both hoses to length. The Park Tool HBT-1 cleanly cuts the cable. I suggest using a small mandrel or hole punch to ensure the tubing is perfectly round and not oval after cutting. I hand tightened the barb fitting, then clamped the hose into the HBT-1 and pushed the barb fitting all the way in. No drama, easy assembly. The tool comes with additional blades for cutting hoses. Looks like an expensive tool for two simple functions. you could do without it, but the tool definitely made the cutting and assembly easy and clean.

Pros
  • Cycling
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
