I have two different brands of electronic locks. The other costs a lot more, but the performance is the same. The lock mostly works fine. I liked it so much I bought another Hutool lock for my barn. In an apartment I rent to an elderly lady, I replaced an existing latch with Hutool. Worked fine for 40 days. The lock then (sometimes) began to make a grinding noise when unlocked and sometimes prevented the tenant from unlocking, causing the elder to panic. Other times (but not always) when blocking, it sounds like he's trying to hold on but has hit an obstacle and is stepping back to release the position. The twist of the thumb did not rotate. The key turned but did not open the latch. Finally, the code combination opened the door. After locking and unlocking several times, the lock started to work properly. Although I have to do something as the elderly tenant was very upset about being locked up. I have a feeling the problem is that the electronic lock is sensitive. The door is in an old building, the locking plate, the door post have been shortened several times over the years because various door fittings have been changed. I think the problem is that the lock requires very precise alignment of the door, jamb, strike plate, old paint etc. The old standard bolt lock worked fine but the electronic lock requires a new door and jamb. With a manual bolt, you can use force to press the key; the electronics do not respond to manual force. I'll set it up and hope it works. Just a note, if you are installing in an old building or on doors, you need to make sure the door jamb is the perfect height and size, otherwise you may have to reinstall multiple times. Also, don't get carried away with the auto lock feature if you have a tenant visiting neighbors with the door open, the lock fails when trying to lock, then the tenant locks the door in the locked position, shaking the lock mechanism . Which maybe adds misalignment issues. I thought the auto lock would be a good feature for the elderly and forgetful but it causes confusion to operate, they like it once they get used to it but their incline curve.
