Review on TiVo Streaming Player Control TCD849500V by Daniel Paige

Does the job but is annoying (updated 1-9-2020)

I bought the TiVo for a number of reasons. First, my landlords pay for cable. I wanted to find a solution that would leverage rather than replace what I've already paid for. Second, many of the programs that I enjoy don't get on the air when I can watch them. Not only can I record them, but I can also record up to 4 shows at the same time. Third, I appreciate the ability to pause and play programs. Finally, it's nice to be able to fast-forward ads even though I can see the products being advertised. I just don't have to constantly listen to them in real time. For these reasons, TiVo is a good solution. However, there are some things I don't like. The first is the physical design. It was designed artistically rather than practically. This clumsy shape didn't help it overheat and stop working properly. I moved it to a place with plenty of air circulation and that solved the overheating issue. Another thing that upsets me is the recent changes in the way programs are presented. The Channel Guide now includes multiple streaming options. I don't watch them and the settings don't allow me to remove them from the channel guide. It's annoying. Also, for a time, TiVo programming included commercials that appeared prior to playing the recorded programs. These were not in-program commercials, these were added commercials. Luckily, they can be skipped by pressing FF. More recently, they stopped inserting these commercials, likely due to customer complaints. The bottom line is that TiVo gets the job done for my circumstances, but these other factors make it far from ideal.
