Review on πŸ“ Canson Artist Series 1557 C A Grain Drawing Paper Review: Fine and Medium Textures, Top Wire Bound, 111 Pound, 9x12 Inch, 20 Sheets by Kristen Reid

Revainrating 5 out of 5

excellent medium weight

Quality C Γ  Grain from Canson (aka Canson 1557 Drawing) is a notch above the Strathmore 400 series and two Classes higher Cansons classic cream. Unlike Classic Cream, C Γ  Grain has a middle tooth. It is much stronger (111lbs/180gsm) and is ideal for pencils, inks and crayons. I've also experimented with colored pencils on paper Stonehenge notebooks, which have a slightly jagged or parchment-like surface, but found them to be incapable of handling multiple layers of paint. This C Γ  Grain paper fully allows the layering technique of colored pencils and is more suitable for mixing colors. I can best describe the color of this paper as natural white. The texture is really fun and seems to improve the overall look of my drawings. I can't think of anything I don't like about this tablet. Although slightly more expensive than the others I've mentioned (other than Stonehenge), it's well worth the extra money.

Pros
  • Ideal for lead and colored pencils and also suitable for ballpoint, ink, charcoal and pastels
Cons
  • Requires socket
