I like to draw on it.

I've just used this for the first time (graphite and Conte colored pencil) and I'm very impressed with it, mainly because it requires multiple erasures without damaging the paper and this does not show any halos or indentations. From now on I'm switching to all Canson.

Pros
  • 9 x 12 top wire pad
Cons
  • So far so good

General purpose drawing paper

I bought this to use with colored pencils for which some brands work well. Polychromos, Pablo, Prismacolor and Luminance work well on it, but I found the Holbein and Derwent ranges layered poorly due to wax buildup (which I expected from Derwent but not Holbein). Pencil, charcoal, charcoal sticks all work well and look great with a textured surface. The back is fairly smooth and accepts most drawing inks well (not Higgins which bleeds a bit). All in all a good paper to use with the right…

Pros
  • Double sided paper: Fine to medium texture
Cons
  • Expensive

excellent medium weight

Quality C Γ  Grain from Canson (aka Canson 1557 Drawing) is a notch above the Strathmore 400 series and two Classes higher Cansons classic cream. Unlike Classic Cream, C Γ  Grain has a middle tooth. It is much stronger (111lbs/180gsm) and is ideal for pencils, inks and crayons. I've also experimented with colored pencils on paper Stonehenge notebooks, which have a slightly jagged or parchment-like surface, but found them to be incapable of handling multiple layers of paint. This C Γ  Grain paper…

Pros
  • Ideal for lead and colored pencils and also suitable for ballpoint, ink, charcoal and pastels
Cons
  • Requires socket
