These little balls of ice cream are really cool. First off, from a technical standpoint, a spherical "cube" of ice is best, as it melts much more slowly than regular square-edged ice cubes. This way your drink will be a little cooler and last longer. But science aside, they just look cool. They claim that if you fill them with heated water, they become crystal clear. I haven't tried it, but the slightly cloudy ball doesn't bother me. The only problem with a spherical ice maker is that you have to have a spherical top. So when you put the halves together, it's your job to fill them up. You need to make sure you get a good seal when you put the halves together. You have to click around each orb to be sure. For filling I have two methods. You can turn the water on very low and carefully position the hole at the top of each ball just below the faucet and let the water ooze out and fill before moving on to the next ball cavity. My second technique is to use a GLASS BUSTER to fill in each void. You can put a staple in each hole and fill them easily. The thing is, making scoops of ice cream is a bit more complicated than filling an ice cream tray, but you end up with a product that's sort of much colder than any other form of ice cream you can imagine. So if you're willing to put in the time, you'll impress your friends, and if not your friends, then at least yourself! So you have a device that produces 4 balls. You'd better have space in the freezer for some inventory. . Because 4 balls get used to it pretty quickly. So get ready to do this kind of work. Make some ice cream every day and place it in a container in different parts of the freezer. Last point. You will inevitably spill water that doesn't enter the hole at the top of each ball. This isn't really an issue, but you do create unintended ice shapes to the point where the top of the device is a bit filled with spilled water. It is no problem for me. I use them exactly the same. So why only 4 stars? Because as much as I love baubles and I love them, making them is pretty difficult. So the 4 stars aren't so much about the device as it is about the process you have to go through to make them.
