We have a 30 acre farm, we have dogs, cats and horses. Our house has a fireplace, which also causes dust and pollutants, as well as carpeted and wooden floors. We are the perfect testing ground. We had many vacuum cleaners of different types and brands. This shark just smokes them all! The first test is always the LL Bean Water Hog mats, which all have entrances. They have tiny squares containing wood shavings and hay from the barn, as well as fluffy cat hair from one of my old fluffy cats who will sit and pull her hair out, which vets say is a nervous condition. This low profile carpet vacuum was powerful enough to be picked up and cleaned in a puff or two! We have a winner! The whole vacuum cleaner is a pleasure to look at and use. I'd like a retractable cord, but in this case you lose the slimness of the device. EASY to tilt the basket, the bottom falls out easily at the touch of a button. Once you figure out which latch releases the entire unit from the base rack so you can go upstairs or vacuum under cabinets or free a bin to dispose of debris, it's fun. I'm a bit of a slow learner, but smart people will only read the big tab buttons. The dual-level hard floor switch is right on the handle in your hand, as is the power button. No cumbersome searching at the block or block head, it's amazing right at the handle. It's amazing how many vacuum cleaner models put it on the suction head where it really isn't as easy to use as the handle. To raise the vacuum from the upright position when it is ready for use, press down on the head of the unit with your foot and it will automatically rotate back up and ready for use. There is no dedicated button or area, just press on it with your foot while pulling back on the handle. The engine is very quiet. In fact, I can suckle while my little granddaughter sleeps. In one of her dreams, I turned off the light to suckle. The lighting on the front of this vacuum is amazing and you will be amazed at what you see on your hard floors. The amount of dust and hair reflected in the headlights is simply shocking. I know I always raise an eyebrow when I throw out a trash can, and that's a massive amount of content, but actually seeing a layer of dirt from animals, people, pollen, a chimney, dirt in there is shocking. This vacuum cleaner has it all. I think the lights on this unit are my favorite part! You can also clearly see what you're vacuuming up from under your beds, sofas, etc. Another benefit of a bagless pouch is that if you accidentally scoop up jewelry or a lucky coin, you can see what you're throwing away. You can get by with a large area with one outlet. The self cleaning brush must be working well because when I check there is no hair on the rollers. I can honestly say I have a feeling this will be the best vacuum you will ever own. I would definitely buy this Shark vacuum knowing how well it works and has super cool features. Worth every penny.
