I bought this heating pad as a surface for small jobs, but it is too soft for ironing smaller jobs (e.g. using a mini heating iron). I'm new to htv and cutting machines and figured it must just be hard to press with enough force. I then got another heating pad that came with the new iron and it's a lot stronger which is more than what you need for the firm press you need for htv. If you need this item for a larger job and are using some of the larger irons this will work great! Using a smaller iron will cause the surface to bulge around your work and it can be difficult to apply the right amount of pressure without slipping off the TV or iron. This would also be a great piece to tuck into the item to protect any liners or HTV that you might place elsewhere (e.g. HTV on both the front and back of the shirt). With the small pencil cases I made with less artwork and a small ironing surface, it was very difficult to iron the items properly. If you're using an iron that's at least 6" x 6", this can help. Otherwise, I would recommend getting a more conventional heat press pad.
