The flaps do not fall under the weight of ordinary debris, so the debris is on the lid.
I love the jars that come with them, but those lids are terrible. First I ordered two and received one. Second, they don't sink under the weight of regular junk, so I keep finding things on the lid. You have to rely on the doors to drop down and no one wants to touch the top of the bin. It's not the nice soft flexible plastic that a suitable basket is made of, it's hard, brittle and poorly made. I ended up removing the flaps (easy to do as they just fit into the notches below) and used the rim to better hold the bag in the jar, but it's an expensive bag holder.
