Review on ๐Ÿ’ป Geekworm Raspberry Pi 3B+/3B Metal Case with Power Control Switch, Cooling Fan Support, and X820 V3.0 SSD & HDD SATA Storage Board compatibility (X735/Rock64 compatible, Not for X825) by Todd Lowry

Nice case for Raspberry Pi 3+ and X820 hard drive adapter made for it.

My goal is to have a low power server for my home network. I'm buying this case and an X820 card so I can install a 2TB drive. All this is very well combined. I'm considering adding an internal UPS card that provides battery power to help with power outages, but it doesn't match these other components in the case. What's missing is the ability to route the GPIO cable out of the case. I think there is a newer version of this case but that is not a problem for my application. I almost got confused when I attached two screws to the hard drive because I had a problem getting the screws in. It seemed counterintuitive that both the bracket and the hard drive were threaded. My problem turned out to be an alignment issue, not a match between two different sets of threads. The other problem I see is that there is no reference I could find showing which direction the air will go with the fan. I would think you want to blow hot air from the top and pull in cooler air from the bottom. I have to wait until I turn everything on to know exactly which direction the air is going. One of the downsides of this case for Raspberry Pi 3B+ is that I believe the metal case blocks the transmission of Wi-Fi and possibly Bluetooth signals through the metal case.

Pros
  • High quality metal material with zinc plated finish;
Cons
  • Set low
