Inaccurate - thermometer and timer

This thermometer is not accurate. I've compared it to regular cooking and the temperature is nowhere near the same. Not sure if mine was just defective because others seem to have a lot of experience. I use mine to check the water temp for bread baking. I'm pretty sure that ruined my last loaf.
