Review on 🚪 Maxpow Gas Charged Liftgate Struts for 4Runner 1996-2002 (2Pcs) - Rear Hatch Support Shocks, SG229011, No Added Ladder by Steven Jackson

Replaced it with a 4Runner 97. The elevators work fine, installed and used in cold weather, circa mid 20's. Very smooth up and down motion and the gate now lifts itself after a slight lift. See previous posts if you need to replace the nylon bushings as this was a great help especially on a truck this old. They came from another big store, not HD but L and you just have to cut them to length to fit the lift top mounting bracket. They fit my 97 4runner but many sizes are available. Hillman 2-piece washers .500 x 3/8" Nylon Standard (SAE), $1.20 for 2-pack! Item #136994 Model #880440 I wish I'd replaced it a few years ago to ease my grief , lol.
