As some readers have pointed out, once the holder is installed the paper towel roll is not flush with the cabinet or horizontal surface. The reason for this is that the manufacturer could not make the support cylinder anything smaller than the inside diameter of the paper towel roll. Since the detachable end (right side) is tapered, centering the paper roll is not a problem. However, when mounted on the spring side, the paper roll core is 1-5/8" ID and the core holder is 1.25" OD. Thus, the paper towel roll does not lie in a horizontal plane. To fix this I made a plastic sleeve that matched the inner diameter of the paper sleeve and the outer diameter of the metal rod. - Problem solved! Simplehuman had to admit the deficiency by increasing the size of the steel tube or providing different adapter bushings to address the spring-side sag issue. In addition, the new hub creates more tension on the paper roll and increases friction to prevent multiple sheets from being torn off when only one sheet or half a sheet is needed. With the included screws, the 1 inch length is suitable for drywall mounting. , but shorter screws are required for base cabinet mounting. Otherwise, the 1" screws will penetrate the upper case. Again, Simplehuman had to provide screws of different lengths. In summary, the unit is solidly built, but the average homeowner doesn't need access to a machine shop to install a paper tower dispenser. Proper production is the responsibility of the manufacturer - do it once, do it right!
