I bought a Mavea jug for a great price and have been using it for about a year. Compared to Brita, the filters themselves appear to be better filters (based on features and reading about them), but in real life I can't tell much difference in taste between the two. I use this pitcher to fill my dog's water bowl and in our Keurig machine, otherwise I use our refrigerator's built-in polyurethane filter. Both filters work approximately the same. The value of these filters seems excellent. I had a full 6 months between changes as I feel the filter's built-in status is simply based on time or number of glass "tips"; The jug has no way of testing the flow rate or using itself. So I would say don't change filters every 45 or 60 days, stretch them out a bit and save money on new filters.
