Works for Manny How to Splice Paracord 550

I purchased these solely for splicing 550 paracord on the manufacturer's recommendation. I wanted to make two tone cords for the local boy scout troop so they could practice knotting. It works, but it definitely requires trial and error. First let me say that they appear to be very well made and coated. In terms of fit and finish I would say they are great. Well, if you're using them to splice a 550 (or anything with a 550), be aware that the screw hole on them is tiny. If it's possible to get 550 I haven't been able to figure out how. I ended up pulling out part of the inner core, cutting it open and then pulling the outer shell over it. So I just tried screwing the outer sleeve into the needle. I also found that lightly wetting the tip of the outer sleeve helped me "mold" it into a point to insert into the screw. Once attached to the needle, the splicing itself was pretty quick, and a thinner needle definitely made the splicing process easier. Process. I wouldn't recommend these if you just need one needle to make 550 bracelets or whatever because "threading" the needle for something like this is a huge pain and tightness doesn't help much. But if you want Manny to connect two cables together, that works great. My only concern as they are advertised specifically for the 550 manny method is that it would be awesome if the manufacturer included some tips or instructions on how to thread the thicker 550 line into such a tight opening.

Pros
  • Making
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than others
